Revascularization Mullica Hill, NJ
Revascularization provided by Dr. Brooke Berson
in Mullica Hill, NJ at Pure Endodontics
In young patients, sometimes traditional root canal therapy can be challenging because the tooth is not fully formed. If the nerve tissue in this immature tooth undergoes necrosis (or dies off), you are left with a tooth that is unable to continue its normal development. This means the tooth may present with a thin root and may be more prone to fracture. Regenerative endodontic therapy (sometimes referred to as revascularization) provides an alternative treatment approach that builds on the principles of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
Regenerative endodontics often involves a 2 or multi-step procedure. At the first appointment, a thorough evaluation will be performed by Dr. Berson to confirm the diagnosis of the tooth and determine that the tooth is a candidate for regeneration. If treatment is initiated, the initial visit will be centered on the proper access and disinfection of the pulp space with placement of a intra canal medication and a temporary filling. Once symptoms have resolved, at a subsequent visit the procedure will be completed. The final appointment focuses on removing the antimicrobial medicament, releasing growth factors from the dentin, delivering stem cells into the root canal and sealing the tooth by placing a pulp space barrier (MTA) and a permanent coronal restoration to prevent bacterial reinfection.
Regenerative endodontics is one of the most exciting developments in dentistry today and endodontists are at the forefront of this cutting-edge research. For more information regarding regeneration, please feel free to contact our office.
